Anna Lee Gasque

Anna Lee Gasque was born on July 25, 1916 in Orient, Iowa.  The Gasque family relocated to Atlanta while she was a young child.  Her father, George Wallace Gasque, was an early Rector here at Incarnation.  Spending the majority of her childhood in Atlanta, Anna Lee attended schools such as People Street School, Joe Brown Jr. High and Fulton High schools.  She fur- thered her education at Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA where she received her Bachelor’s of Arts in 1938.  During her school years she became an active member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls and the Order of Eastern Stars.

By 1940, Anna Lee Gasque received her high school teaching certificate.  However, she taught from 1970 – 1983 at Georgia Institute of Technology.  She was well traveled and lived in various cities including Chapel Hill, NC, Miami, FL, Philadelphia & Haverford, PA.

Anna Lee Gasque was well known for her service in the Army.  She joined in 1954 and retired in 1967 as a Master Sergeant of the Women’s Army Corps. One of the members here at Incarnation, Marshall Dooly, recalls being very afraid of Anna Lee when she wore her uniform.  But he also recalls that she was always a very sweet person.

Anna Lee Gasque was always nice to everyone at the church, especially the kids.  She always took it upon herself to give graduation gifts to the children.  She felt that everyone should have nice things and have a fair opportunity to get an education. It is with these intentions that Anna Lee Gasque left $250,000 to provide scholarships toward the education of the kids of the Church of the Incarnation. We are proud that she was a part of our parish family and honored to keep her memory alive.
